DOT Roadcheck 2026 Is Coming — What Texas Truckers Need to Know

When is it?

The 2026 International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 12-14, 2026. Over these 72 hours, inspectors will be conducting nearly 15 inspections every minute across North America.

2026 Special Focus Areas

  • Tractor Protection Systems: This includes your tractor protection valve, trailer supply valve, and anti-bleed back system. Inspectors will be looking for air leaks and ensuring your trailer’s brakes set properly if the air lines disconnect.
  • Alcohol and Controlled Substances: With the DACH (Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse) now fully integrated, inspectors will be checking driver eligibility in real-time. If a driver is in “prohibited” status, they will be pulled off the road immediately.

The Level I Inspection Checklist

While the focus is on the systems above, most drivers will undergo a full North American Standard Level I Inspection. Here is what you need to have ready:

  • Braking Systems: Proper adjustment, no audible leaks, and intact brake pads.
  • Cargo Securement: Check your straps, chains, and bolsters.
  • Paperwork & ELD: Ensure your ELD is functioning and you have your medical card and CDL on hand.

Pro-Tips for Texas Owner-Operators

  • Pre-Trip Everything: Don’t wait until you’re at the weigh station. Do a “mock inspection” this week.
  • Clean the Cab: A clean truck often signals a disciplined driver. Inspectors are human; a professional appearance can sometimes set the tone for a smoother inspection.
  • Check Your Insurance: Roadside violations and OOS orders stay on your SMS/CSA profile for 24 months. This directly affects what you pay for Primary Liability and Cargo insurance at your next renewal.
